My courses are all based in the latest psychological research, good practice and are ethically designed. They can be delivered as they are or I am happy to work with individuals to fit them to specific requirments.
What does the term "mental health" mean? Low mood or depression, stress or anxiety?
Designed to challenge some stereotypes about mental health, this course takes a look at the good, the bad and the illness.
In this 3 hour course we will openly discuss difficult emotions such as anxiety, guilt and shame and normalise what these emotions are. We will also discuss the more chronic conditions like depression and PTSD.
This course will also explore stress, the stress response and the true causes behind it.
The course will explore the minefield that is the mental health system and what's the difference between a counsellor and psychologist? What does a diagnosis mean? Will anti depressants make me numb?
The course culminates looking at a stress management plan, wellbeing action plans and mental health tool kits.
What you will learn
Poor mental health is not all in peoples heads! Most mental health problems stem from the environment we live and work in. As an employer and manager we hold responsibility to keep people well in work and ensure their work doesn't cause psychological injury.
Based around the WHO standards for workplace mental health management and utilitise HSE approved tool kits, this course is designed to breakdown a managers legal responsibility and apply interventions with their team. It is ideally a top to bottom course from CEO's to frontline managers.
Bringing together my experience of managing, suffering from mental ill health and being a psychological therapist, this 3 hour course is designed to teach managers the pragmatic skills to manage psychological risk.
This course covers manager responsibility, boundaries, listening skills, stress risk assessments, wellness action plans, mental health tool kits and where and when to signpost.
What you will learn
Psychological resilience is a term that is often thrown around. But what is it? Is mental strength different to resilience? How do I build psychological resilience? Is pushing on when life is hard resilient?
In short, resilience is the ability to feel emotions better and ask what they are telling you. We all face adversity, resilience is the ability to better feel that adversity and respond to what our emotions are telling us. My 90 minute resilience course can show you how best to do that.
What you will learn
In my opinion, a knowledge of safeguarding and suicide awareness should be the starting point and bedrock of any mental health strategy. Understanding safeguarding, confidentiality and personal boundaries is a must in all psychological work.
If we are asking people to open up, then we must accept all that might bring domestic abuse, suicidal ideation or addiction to name a few things.
Whilst no one is asking a manager or mental health first aider to be a therapist, these core skills are still just as vital to give a person the feeling of security and confidence to keep all staff safe.
Suicide is not an easy discussion to approach. But it may be the most important one you ever do. This course is designed to look at why suicide occurs, the risk factors for people and how to spot signs and symptoms of it.
It will also cover how to keep people safe and who needs to be involved when someone is suicidal.
What you will learn
After receiving mental health training, it can be a lonely and scary place to find yourself.
Responsibility can flood in and mental health challenges can be overwhelming.
If you and your staff wish, post any training, I can remain "on call" in case you, your staff require any support, guidance or supervision.
By adding in this layer of support and guidance, you reduce any chances of managers, champions or first aiders becoming overwhelmed, going above their knowledge base, or being psychologically injured through compassion fatigue or vicarious trauma.
